Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Moderately saturated medium red. Somewhat riper aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, smoke, tar, tobacco and pepper, plus a hint of green coffee beans. More intensely flavored and vinous than the '97; in a rather fruity style but a wine of modest sweetness. Finishes with tongue-dusting tannins and more length than the '97, but still betrays a slight greenness. (ST) (5/1998)

St Emilion Grand Cru
The L'Arrosee's 1996 is an impressive effort for the vintage. Some subdued hints of tar and tobacco behind the black fruit on the nose, with a nice earth/cedar and black cherries finish on the palate. A tremendous value wine !

The 1996 Chateau Marbuzet has a dark ruby colour. Iron, game and deep red fruits fill the nose with exciting aromas. Plump, seductive flavors cover the palate with a hit of '96 acidity on the finish keeping everything balanced and in proper order. A bit of lavender makes its way into things after being exposed to air for 60 minutes.

St Emilion Grand Cru Classe
This estate has been rejuvenated thanks to the inspired leadership of Gerard Perse and it has never produced better wines. The 1996 has quantities of redcurrant fruit in the nose, along with earth and spice. This is a pleasant wine that is in its prime now and so will gain no benefit from additional cellaring.

A 1996 wine from the region of Bordeaux.
Neal Martin writes of this wine... "Showing fabulously at the turn of the millennium where it displayed great depth and concentration. A more muted response when last tasted blind at Farr's horizontal. Much fresher on the nose with good fruit concentration. Blackberry, cedar, burnt toast, quite complex and well-defined. The palate is quite sweet with bitter cherry, raspberry and strawberry. Moderate tannins with a fleshy finish. Not bad at all. Tasted September 2006." Neal Martin Wine Journal
